HOW TO SCREEN YOUR STALL

In an effort to reduce waste and save on the amount of sawdust used, it is mandatory that everyone screen their stalls. If you would like to opt out of using the screens you will be charges an additional $20.00 per month.

1. Gather together a shovel, pick, broom wheelbarrow and screen. To start the screening process remove the urine/wet spots and pull all the sawdust and dirty material away from where you are going to do your screening.

2. Place the screen vertically against the wall, where you have removed all the bedding material to give you a clean area for the screened bedding to collect beneath the screen and the dirty debris to collect in front of the screen. Using the shovel, scoop up dirty bedding and begin dumping the dirty bedding onto the screen. I have found if you place the edge of the shovel against the screen and then move the shovel back and forth allowing small amounts of bedding to fall through at a time the screening process has better results. Repeat until all the bedding has been screened and there are two piles. One pile is behind the screen and consists of the screened bedding that is clean and the other pile in front of the screen that consists of dirty debris. At this point you can sweep all residual particles into the dirty debris pile to be removed and sprinkle stall dry on any areas that need it.

3. Shovel the dirty debris into the wheelbarrow and spread the screened bedding back around the stall. If the bedding is really dirty you may dump the screened bedding into the arena. Add new bedding as necessary.

4. Sweep the isle in front of your stall when you are finished cleaning. If your horse is in the sand turnout or arena we ask that you please check to see if they have pooped and pick it up if they have done so.

Please ask if any clarification is needs.

Thank you Vogt Family Ranch!
